Security Officer

JOB SUMMARY

Lewis & Clark Behavioral Health Services (LCBHS) is recruiting for a ­­­­­Security Officer position. The position will be responsible to provide security for agency personnel and persons served, including protection of assets, agency buildings, parking lots, and other premises as assigned.  The role will be primarily positioned at The Core Center, which provides 24/7 crisis care services for youth and adults, while also performing duties at the Ebel Recovery Center, which provides substance use treatment and detoxification services for adults.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate workflow with other team members to ensure safety of agency personnel and persons served.

  • Patrol agency buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders. Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations. Respond to all emergency codes and security requests (i.e. staff assists, security alerts, fire alarms).

  • Monitor conduct of visitors on agency premises. Confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.

  • Escort agency personnel and persons served to parking lots and agency buildings.

  • Provide a welcoming environment for agency personnel and persons served.

  • Perform breathalyzer checks and obtain vitals for patients, when indicated.

  • Monitor patients for safety via routine safety checks and video camera monitoring.

  • Maintain therapeutic posture with patients experiencing emotional instability, exercising self-control in volatile situations such as verbal/physical threats and/or confrontation. Assist in conflict resolution and de-escalation.

  • Provide restraints for patients with behavioral safety concerns as needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality of agency personnel and persons served.

  • Maintain records, prepare incident reports, and log activities related to safety and security duties. Secure and log property including contraband, valuables, and lost and found articles.

  • Secure and/or unlock offices and facilities as required.

  • Serve as a liaison to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies as well as security staff employed by other agencies; promote and maintain harmonious and effective relationships and communications with said agencies. Participate in investigations as needed.

  • Assist with training of new staff as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership team.


Required Licensure/Certification and Experience/Abilities

  • Six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Certified as a Law Enforcement officer in the state of South Dakota preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, other professional agencies, other employees, supervisors, and the public.

  • Sensitivity to special needs of the clients; and ability to recognize, and work with cultural and ethnic differences.

  • Ability to community effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to plan and organize time effectively.

  • Ability to safely operate passenger vans and non-passenger vehicles.

  • Ability to follow directives of supervisors.
