Lewis & Clark Behavioral Health Services (LCBHS) is an integrated behavioral healthcare agency offering a variety of different programs in southeastern South Dakota. LCBHS provides residential, outpatient, and inpatient programs as well as patient-centered medical homes, medication-assisted treatment, and crisis services to individuals experiencing substance use disorders or mental illness. LCBHS provides services with a staff of 170 individuals from office locations in Yankton, Vermillion, and Lake Andes, South Dakota. Plans are well underway for the consolidation of the Yankton locations into one state-of-the-art facility. JOB SUMMARY

Lewis & Clark Behavioral Health Services (LCBHS) is recruiting for a management position. The position will be responsible for the management and ongoing development of LCBHS’s crisis programs. The responsibilities include the clinical and administrative operations of LCBHS crisis programs. The individual will also be responsible for ensuring that the crisis services operate within State contract standards and within South Dakota regulations for an Appropriate Regional Facility. The individual will ensure that the clinical quality and financial goals for these programs are met or exceeded. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides direct clinical and administrative supervision of staff providing the support and guidance to manage the daily operations of the programs.

  • In conjunction with the lead clinician in each crisis services program, ensures that all clinical services are delivered with exemplary clinical practice, are appropriately and timely documented, and meet all relevant standards.

  • Develops and maintains up-to-date policy and procedure manuals.

  • Makes use of management practices that include empowerment of staff, the provision of clear and concise expectations regarding duties, frequent feedback focusing on both positive and problematic aspects of work performance, and other management practices that are consistent with Continuous Quality Improvement.

  • Implements all program policies and procedures through the appropriate assignment of duties.

  • Completes probationary and annual performance evaluations for the crisis services staff in accordance with LCBHS Policy.

  • Ensures that that all management functions for the crisis services programs are completed as defined by LCBHS policies and procedures.

  • Acts as a liaison to other service providers both within and external to LCBHS as needed to coordinate care for the crisis services consumers.

  • Recruits and hires staff in the crisis services program and ensures that the hired staff meets the criteria for the specific position(s).

  • Ensures that the crisis services staff are thoroughly trained in the responsibilities of their job and have the resources to complete their job functions.

  • Develops an annual Quality Improvement Plan and works with the crisis services staff to implement and manage the plan.

  • Works with business office to develop, implement, and ongoingly manage budgets for the crisis services programs.

  • Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary by the management team.

  • Promotes and maintains harmonious and effective relationships and communications within the programs and agency.

  • Evaluates and implements recommendations from program committees such as the utilization review, pharmaceutical services, infection control, and client care committees.

  • Informs the appropriate regulatory agencies within 24-hours of sentinel events.

Key Qualifications:

  • Program Leadership: Minimum of two years of program management experience.

  • Change leadership: Ability to be flexible and versatile in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Ability to interpret and manage program budgets.

  • Team Leadership:  Demonstrated ability to effectively foster teamwork to collaboratively set goals and resolve problems, while also enabling processes to foster accountable and efficient decision-making.

  • Behavioral Health Expertise: Experience and extensive knowledge of behavioral health crisis and/or suicide prevention services, from both a clinical and operations perspective.

Required Licensure / Certification / Experience:

  • Registered nurse with bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Counselor or social worker with LPC – MH, CSW.

  • Advanced practice nurse with master’s, DNP, Ph.D.

  • Psychologist with master’s degree or Ph.D.

  • License and / or QMHP certification eligible.

  • Management experience in crisis care or medical facility required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in data management and reporting.

  • Knowledge and experience in a psychiatric treatment milieu.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
