JOB SUMMARY
Lewis & Clark Behavioral Health Services (LCBHS) is recruiting a Certified Nurse Practitioner. The position will be responsible for providing medical assessment and treatment to youth and adults experiencing crisis related to mental health and addiction. Work is performed within established policies and procedures under the direction of the Medical Director and is reviewed through conferences and reports.
Essential Functions:

Conduct nursing and medical examinations for youth and adults in crisis upon presentation to the facility, identifying potential risks and possible options for support/intervention, in collaboration with crisis care staff.

Provide treatment for patients with mental health and substance addiction problems, including medication administration in conjunction with nursing staff.

Discuss difficult cases in regularly scheduled clinical supervisory and peer group meetings.

Refer to in-house and community resources to meet patient needs, including telehealth services.

Serve as a member of the crisis care team, providing consulting for other professionals within the agency.

Provide indirect clinical supervision to crisis care team members, within scope of practice.

Prepare and maintain necessary records and reports.

Maintain therapeutic posture with patients experiencing emotional instability, exercising self-control in volatile situations such as verbal/physical threats and/or confrontation. Assist in conflict resolution and de-escalation.

Maintain patient confidentiality. Immediately report safety concerns related to patient care issues, maintenance concerns, property destruction, theft, or any other safety concern preventing or directly or indirectly impacting the effective provision of treatment services.

Participate in on-call rotation with other advanced practice providers employed by the agency, supporting crisis care and addiction services.

Assist with training of new staff as required.

Develop and provide continued oversight of lab and pharmacy protocols and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership team.
Required Licensure / Certification and Experience / Abilities:
-
Certified Nurse Practitioner in the State of South Dakota required.

Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) required.
-
Dual certification for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) preferred.

Valid driver’s license.
-
Sensitivity to special needs of the patients; and ability to recognize, and work with cultural and ethnic differences.

Thorough knowledge of mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders, including symptoms, treatment, causes, and prevention.

Ability to diagnose various mental and related illnesses and to develop and carry out treatment plans.

Ability to make routine professional and administrative decisions.

Ability to utilize in-house and community resources in the treatment and prevention of mental illness.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, other employees, and the public.

Ability to community effectively, orally and in writing.

Ability to plan and organize time effectively.

Ability to interpret and follow written state guidelines.

LCBHS provides services with a staff of 170 individuals from office locations in Yankton, Vermillion, and Lake Andes, South Dakota. Plans are well underway for the consolidation of the Yankton locations into one state-of-the-art facility.
